Week of April 7-April 18

No Spelling for the week of April 7 due to testing! 

Language Arts:
Animal Research
Locate facts
Write persuasive paragraphs citing at least 4 details

Math:
Draw Arrays 
Write multiplication sentences
Write the repeated addition sentence that go with their multiplication sentence

Science:
Finish their animal research and their quadrama

Social Studies:
Learn about China, India, and Japan
Begin our Mini Society unit:  create town name, choose business teams, and products to make

Please be sure that your child is keeping up with reading, writing, and math over the Spring Break!  Your child has been given practice worksheets to use at home over the break to help keep their skills and knowledge fresh in their heads! Educational websites and apps are also beneficial to work on over the break as well!

Weeks of March 17- March 28


PLEASE remember your Math Madness packet on Wednesday March 19!  We will be taking the Math Madness in class between March 19th and March 21st! 

Field Trip to the Desert Museum Thursday March 20th!  Please send your child to school on time, wearing appropriate clothes and shoes, a disposable water bottle, sack lunch, and small snack!  

Spring Break:  March 30-April 6

Stanford 10: begins Thursday April 10- Monday April 13


Math:  

  • Subtract 100 facts in 5 minutes
  • Solve 1 and 2 step word problems and explain their thinking
  • Measure to the closest inch and centimeter, describe which measurement tool they would use to measure different objects
  • Begin our Geometry unit (side, vertices, symmetry, irregular, and regular shapes)
  • Introduce Arrays (multiplication) as repeated addition and how to use a picture to help you solve (columns and rows)


Language Arts:

  • Locate facts in fiction and nonfiction text
  • Use nonfiction text features to research an animal
  • Write and publish a variety of poems
  • Write personal narratives, expository text, and persuasive essays


Science:

  • Learn about different habitats, animals and plants that live there, and adaptations


Social Studies:

  • Learn about the culture of China, Japan, and India

March 3- March 14

Math:
  • Subtract 100 facts in 5 minutes
  • Read/Create/Analyze tally charts, bar graphs, and pictographs
  • Use standard and nonstandard units of measurement
  • Measure objects using inches and centimeters
  • Solve word problems using multiple strategies
  • Stanford 10 Test Prep- review strategies, using scratch paper, bubbling answers, etc.
Language Arts:
  • Read and write variety of poems 
  • Identify rhyme, rhythm, alliterations, main idea in poetry
  • Locate facts while reading
  • Identify the author's purpose 
Science:
  • Learn about the desert, tundra, rainforest, forest, and ocean.
  • Learn about why and how each animals survives in its environment (adaptations)
  • Explain how plants and animals depend on one another
  • Choose an animal of interest and write a research report on that animal using StoryKit
  • Create a quadrama depicting 4 habitats and the plants and animals that live in them
